What Is The Cause And Treatment For Recurring Urinary Tract Infection?

in my urine have been found e-coli.. I have been treated by Macrobid. After finishing a course of antibiotics (5 days later)- the second time have been found enterococcus species again. The Doctor again gives me Macrobid.I have checked in internet - there are Furadantin and Macrodantin and Macrobid. WHY he treated me the third time during some years THE SAME MEDICATION, if it does not help ? Ampicillin works too, but I have an allergy to penicillin. Could you help me with this question, please ?

Hello,

It is difficult in many patients to completely cure a urinary tract infection, More difficult in men. And recurrence is more prevalent in women. Patient are treated with antibiotic which physician thinks as good antibiotic depending on your local area microbial resistance indices. He may change it further under guidance of your urine culture report. Method of taking a urinary sample is that an early morning mid stream urinary sample is best in a sterilized container.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
