What Is The Cause And Treatment For Toenail Fungus?

I have had a toenail fungus on one toe for about 3 years. took medicine from dermatologist - seemed to be getting better till I ran out of medicine (40.00/bottle). I noticed this past week some tiny red itchy bumps on my skin that is getting worse by the day. in the meantime, for the past 2 nights, I made a concoction of olive oil and crushed garlic, applied to my toenail, and it has improved 80 percent, honestly. I also acquired a fingernail fungus (for the 1st time in my life!). it did have pus but I doctored it with vinegar and alcohol. pus went away but it is red and swollen around cuticle. fingernail has a tiny bit of discoloration.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns.

As per your complain it seems that you have a chronic and resistant case of toenail fungus also known as Onychomycosis leading to recurring episodes of formation of bumps along with discoloured toenail..

It is good that you have improved with home remedies but there is a possibility that you might have a relapse of the symptoms..

I would suggest you to consult a Dermatologist and get evaluated..
He can take a small specimen by scraping the lesion and do a microscopic examination for confirmation..
He can advise you to take oral antifungal medicines like Terbinafine for a period of 3 to 6 weeks for complete eradication of infection..
Topical application of antifungal and steroid ointments can also help..
n very resistant cases nail removal or lazer treatment along with antifungal creams can also be advised..
