What Is The Cause For Loss Of Hair All Over My Body When On Lortab For Back Pain?

Im 28 m.....I have lost all the hair on my head...my entire body almost...My eyebrows are now thinning....
I heard and have read everything I can think of.....alopecia aretea...etc...I am an electrician and have bad back paid...my doctor recently prescribed me lortab 10mg...which ive taken regulary since oct last year my hair started falling out middle of Dec......now im bald, can it be the hydrocodone.?? Im 130pds and 5'7 i eat mostly meats and i rarely eat vegtables...but its been like that since i was a child......Whats wrong with me?

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM.

I would keep a possibility of Alopecia universalis. It develops as sudden or gradually progressive hair loss over the entire body. Etiology is autoimmune. Testing for thyroid(thyroid function tests) and other autoimmune conditions should be done.

I don't think lortab or hydrocodone or the kind of food intake has any relation to alopecia.

I would advice that you see a dermatologist for a confirmatory diagnosis and appropriate measurement.

Alopecia universalis is commonly managed by oral steroids which can be given either as pulse steroids or as daily oral dosage by your treating dermatologist.

Other treatment modalities are immunosuppresants like methotrexate, cyclosporine, Azathioprine etc which can only be taken under the supervision of a dermatologist and require monitoring for liver, kidney and bone marrow functions.
