The last three times I have eaten I have experienced significant swelling and discomfort under my left ear and top left jaw. This gradually returns to normal though there is still some slight swelling which remains. It does nor occur when I drink. What is the cause and what should I do about it ?
I am 70 years old and in good health though take medication for an under active thyroid on a daily basis. Thanks for your help. Tricia O'Shea
You may be having obstruction to the flow of saliva from your parotid gland, which is located below and front of the ear. This can be either due to stones or a constriction to the duct ( pipe ) of the gland! Please dont worry. just meet your ent doctor , he will examine you and maybe ask for a ultrasound of the face and guide you further! take care
