What Is The Cause For The Pain In My Head With An Osteophyte Impinging On The Nerves?
Hi Doctor , I am having trouble with my c1 vertebra. I have had a lot of severe shooting pains up my head and around to the back of my throat. Also dizziness and nausea when I get the pain, and some double vision. I have been told that I have an osteophyte impinging on the nerves from that area, but that trying to fix it surgically is risky. I have severe widespread osteo arthritis. Do you have any suggestions? I am not able to take opiates or nsaids because of CKD. Thank you for your opinion. Lee.
I am so sorry to hear about this osteophyte and the nerve impingement. I can understand how difficult it is living with such a constant pain. Surgery is a good option to liberate n impinged nerve. Though it has its risks, the benefits outweigh the risk. Because you have reported wide spread osteophyte and nerve impingement, it would be nice for you to follow up with a neurosurgeon would evaluate and make the decision to operate upon or not. Treatment for nerve pain is by using Gabapentin. It is safe even in persons with CKD. Talk to your doctor about this drug so that he may get you on it while you get evaluated for surgery unless the surgeon thinks the risks outweigh the benefits.
I hope this addresses your query fully. Thank you so much for patronizing our services and please do feel free to ask for follow up clarifications and information if need be. I wish you the best of health. Dr. Ditah, MD.
