What Is The Cause For Weight Gain When On Metformin And Galvus For Diabetics?

It all started with type 2 diabetics which I contracted / noticed 3 years ago . Inintially I was on diet and excercise and was only taking medication for thyroid by taking thyronorm 100. I was loosing weight which was good and it almost came to 69/70 kg right for my height. Diabetics was slightly not in control due to probably starchy basmati rice which we get here. I thought that ineed to take drugs for diabetics and I in consultation with doctor started medication of metformin 500 twice a day, galvus 50 once a day . Nerve up OD after dinner(for my leg muscle issues )apart from this I have been taking simvotin 5. I also take Once in a week vitamin d rise.
Problem is I am putting on weight suddenly and started looking not so right. Is any of the above medicine is adding weight to the body. Do I need to resort more excercise and stop any of the medicine . As of now my bp is normal and i do not take any medication for bp.Please advise.

Hello,
Both the drugs Vidagliptin ( Galvus) and Simvastatin ( simvitin) are potential to cause weight gain.
You weight gain may be due long term use of these drugss.
As you also suffering from Hypothyroidism, Please check whether your thyroid hormones are with in normal level.
Consult your treating endocrinologist about whether the thyroxine dose is sufficient.
Exercise regularly for 45 minutes a day for 5 days a week.
If the weight is still there, you must consult your treating doctor regarding the change vildagliptin and simvostatin.
Also check whether your lipid profile is in normal limits.

Hope this helps.
Wishing you good health.
