What Is The Cause Of Abdominal Pain And Thick Clear Mucus Discharge?
Hi, I have had a mirena coil for approx 3 years with no periods/bleeding. A couple of weeks ago I had a couple of hours of very severe lower abdominal pain which gradually subsided. Following that, I had a few days of very light brown discharge but now I seem to have a lot of clear thick mucus discharge (no smell or colour). Should I be worried about this? Many thanks for our help. I am 40 years old, mother of 3.
-While being a Mirena IUD (intrauterine device), sometimes side effects like intermenstrual spotting can be seen and also the progesterone in it can lead to thick vaginal mucus.
As you are on Mirena for 3 years, better to get examined once. Please consult your gynecologist once, get examined and undergo a pap smear and ultrasound. With this work up any possibility of infection or any other problem can be identified and treatment can be taken accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
