What Is The Cause Of Brown Spots While Pregnancy ?

Hi Dr,

I'm 6 weeks pregnant I started spotting brown and then red 6 days ago. Went for two scans baby is fine. Dr said possibly cervix. I don't fill a panty liner not even half it's only when I wipe and it's daily. I have been on utrogestan for two weeks. What do u think the cause is and should I worry as we did see the h.beat twice. Do u think utrogestan 200mg a day is causing this. Since pregnant have not had sex so can't be the friction.

Really hope u can help

Hi,
Hormone supplementation during the early days of pregnancy is a double-edged sword as it can be useful most of the time while it can also cause an abortion sometimes. If you really need it depends on whether the cause of this bleeding is due to a hormone defect. If no intrauterine bleeding is seen in a trans-vaginal sonogram, local causes like a cervicitis, cervical erosion, polyps and/or vaginitis have to be suspected and appropriately treated whenever possible. Please take absolute bed rest, avoid all activity including intercourse and try to remain calm. You will get well in course of time. Wish you good health.
