Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My son Kiran aged 19 years is having the following problem. He is studying Engineering in Bangalore. We are settled in Bangalore.
1. He is having difficulty in climbing staircase. He cannot climb the steps as normally do. He used to climb the steps in a zig zag way.
2. We used to sat on the floor for dining. While getting up he finds it very difficult.
3. While getting into bus he cannot board a bus with high footboard.
4. We noticed that his both hands (fingers) are shivers. But no problem while writing and other day to day activities.
Initially we thought it will get automatically cured as he is growing (teenage). Then we noticed that he had frequent problems as point 1 and 2.
Then we approached a Dr.Srinivas (HOD)Neuro surgon at M.S.Ramaiha Medical college in Bangalore. They advised us to admit him there 3 days and started all the diagnosis. On the third day they took piece from thigh muscle and send the same for Biopsy test at Nimhans.
At Nimhan’s they confirmed that he is having problem with Spino Muscular Atrophy(SMA-III).
Layman’s language the communication between spinal cord to thigh muscle is coming down day by day. It is a genetic problem it seems. To our bad luck there is no medicine available in the world for this. Then for a second opinion we approached Columbia Asia hospital and consulted with Dr.Arjun (HOD-Neuro surgeon) He also confirmed that what Dr.Srinivas observation is correct.
i couldn't able to attach the medical report from Nimhans. pls advice.
