What Is The Cause Of Vomiting And Weakness?

My son was hospitalized in ICU for 7 days for respitory failure and pneumonia. His abdomen turned ridged had episodes of vomiting. NG tube was placed to decompress stomach. X-ray showed some bowel distention with stool sitting in transverse colon. He is home now. Is taking ducolax 2 tabs in am and 100mg colace twice daily. He is passing only liquid stools with brown sediment only. Has vomited generally in morning. Had Dulcolax suppository with no success. No fever. He was on vent and receiving many meds and was immobile . He is moving about more and is still weak. He is 28 and DD. he has a history of constipation, mega colon. He often only goes every few days a stools are very large. I am unsure if we should try other forms of laxatives or some other tx?

Thanks for your question on HCM. In my opinion sunce you said that your son was put on ventilator, he might develop paralytic ileus. In this condition due to immobilisation and hypokalemia, intestines are not functioning properly and so no stool is passed. This causes retention and fullness in stomach. Correctiin of potassium is needed with stool softners, high dietery fibers and good laxative is required.
