What Is The Clotting Time After IV Port Withdrawn?
Hello, I was just admitted to my local ER this evening and received a 22 or 20 gauge IV port, which was in for several hours. Upon the removal, which was ripped out harshly, I began bleeding profusely and did not stop until 10 or 15 minutes later. Is this normal, and what are normal clotting ranges after a blood draw or IV port withdraw? Thank you. Ashley C.
Hi Ashley, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Bleeding should usually stop within 3-4 minutes usually. 2. Pressure needs to be applied on the spot. If the opening is much bigger, bleeding maybe prolonged. 3. If you are worried about increased bleeding/clotting time, get a hemostasis profile workup done. BT, PT, APTT will evaluate, if you have any disorder. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
