What Is The Difference Between A Cold Sore And A Pimple?
How are you able to tell the difference between a cold sore and a zit around the lip area? I am 19 I have never got a cold sore before but I do have occasional acne because I lift weights every day and am often covered in sweat. Monday I notice two zit like bumps on my upper lip I popped them and regular puss came out and I didn t think much of it. It has been 3 days since I popped them and the skin around the area is still red though no head has come back. I had kissed a girl a couple nights before the lump appeared. Just want to make sure I didn t end up with a virus like herpes or anything.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
A cold sore is caused by viral infection leading to clusters of fluid filled blisters.. Pimple is commonly due to infection or clogged pores. So your explanation is not appearing like a cold sore rather it looks like a pimple only. Do not worry, apply Clindamycin gel or Muricoprin gel over it. Do ice packs over it. You can also wash your face with salicylic acid based facewash. Do not touch it again and again as it can cause spread of infection.
