What Is The Difference Between Ovarian Cyst And Pregnancy?

How can I tell the difference between an ovarian cyst and pregnancy? I have had protected sex with my boyfriend recently, using a condom, he has pulled out, and I am on birth control for a month and a half, but am having pains in my lower abdomen and slight bleeding. What does this mean?

Hello ma'am and welcome.

An ovarian cyst will of course have various symptoms that do not mimic pregnancy, and the lower abdominal pain is one of them. Lower abdominal pain is not experienced during the first trimester of pregnancy in most cases. So I would strongly recommend an ultrasound of your abdomen and pelvis to confirm the symptoms to be due to the cyst and accordingly speak to your doctor for treatment.

As you are well protected, pregnancy is less likely and your symptoms being due to the ovarian cyst is more likely.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
