What Is The Dosage Of Suboxone And Dilaudid For Heroin Addiction?
My brother is home from Florida for the holidays and is a herion addict. He is going through some detox. He says he has not done herion in months and is taking suboxone because he was taking rx from doctor of dilaudid to help him get off herion. Would dilaudid be prescribed to get off herion for months and then take suboxone for 4 days? I do not believe him but I am not sure.
No, dilaudid drug is not a standard treatment at all and indeed would get that doctor in serious trouble with most medical boards.
It can actually work, but because it is a very strong addictive opiate it can also add up to a fatal dose if taken with heroin.
Suboxone drug, however, has a maximal effect it can do and is very hard to overdose on. Furthermore, it is two drugs and one is a blocker of narcotics. So, it tends to prevent overdose.
Now that he is on Suboxone, the only worry is that the underlying psychological conditions of addiction are still there and he is likely to relapse. Generally, years of therapy and treatment are recommended.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Matt Wachsman
