What Is The Dosage Of Folic Acid Tablet During Pregnancy?

Hi doctor, I had a miscarriage in Feb due to durmoid cyst and underwent laparoscopy operation in india and my doctor prescribed FOL 123 5mg folic acid tablets and now I am 10 week pregnent and back in us , i read on internet that during pregnancy 0.4 mg folic acid intake is enough and i am taking 1000 mcg !! Please suggest , should i continue taking 5mg Folic acid ? Thank you.

hi yes you should continue 5 mg folic acid as it will take care of the increased requirements in pregnancy and in case there is any deficiency it will be taken care of. secondly folic acid is a water soluble vitamin so even if taken extra gets excreted in urine and has no harmful effect . take care all the best.
