Hi doctor, My wife Aged 37 years is consistently suffering from persistent dry cough, She has been diagonised with allergic bronchitis. She is on budecort 1 mg and levolin respules 0.63 mg, Montair LC, and Doxofylline 400 mg with little or no relief. She don t have any history of bronchitis and her current situation is terrible. She keeps on coughing endlessly entire day and out. Please let me know how long the current medication may need to be carried on and as to if i am on right course of medication?

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

If your wife is suffering from acute bronchitis then she would require,

1) antibiotics (quinolones or macrolides or cephalosporins or amoxicillin with clavulanic acid) with
2) bronchodilators (which you are taking already) like beta agonists (salbutamol or terbutaline),
3) anticholinergics like ipratropium bromideor aminophylline with
4) nebulization and
5) steam inhalation.

The current medications which you are taking is good but antibiotics must also be given with them to subside infection.

This all above might have to be given for at least 7 to 10 days to resolve the symptoms.

Consult your pulmonologist for further advise.
