What Is The Likelihood Of Weight Gain While On Treatment For Insomnia?

I have just been prescribed 20mg a night for insomnia. What is the likelihood of weight gain? It took me a year to lose 70 pounds from Seroquel and Effexor usage. I really can't go through that again. I am only supposed to take it at night, not during the day at all.

Hello

I think you forgot to mention the name of current drug you are using.

But yes seroquel and effexor can cause weight gain.

In my opinion, drugs like zolpidem and ativan(prescription drugs) are safer in the sense that they donot cause weight gain.

Also, you should avoid daytime naps.

Take a glass of warm milk at bedtime.

Practice relaxation exercises like deep breathing and meditation to keep your mind relaxed.

Feel free to ask further.

Thanks.

Dr. Nidhi.
