Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Is The Maximum Healing Period Post Hysterectomy To Continue Exercise?
I am four weeks out from a hysterectomy. It was laprascopic (left one ovary) and I am feeling great and the incisions have healed well. I m 37 and was an avid athlete before surgery and did yoga everyday in addition to running, biking and swimming. The surgeon was a referral and very vague in giving me any specific instructions for post surgery exercise. I m young, healing well and was very active before surgery. How soon can I at least do some restorative yoga?
As soon as you feel able, you may start exercising by taking short walks and making slow and gradual progressive increases in your level of activities. for most patients moderate exercises with a few restrictions are appropriate after 6 weeks.
However, vigorous exercises like lifting heavy weight, exercises having pressure on abdomen or forceful stretching exercises may be avoided till 8-12 weeks. However, with individual variations most of the normal physical exercises, yoga and jogging or running etc. may be resumed under guidance of your doctor after 12 weeks of surgery.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Satnarain Bansal, General & Family Physician
