what is the meaning of free fluid in the pouch of douglas,and what is the side effect on me trying to conceive 35,fola,female, My scan shows i have a free fluid in the pouch of douglas,i want to know the meaning,the cause and what treatment measure to take,Dr mohammed Tauseef,gave me a reason to smile when he answered my question.

Pouch of douglas is a dependent or lower part of abdomen behind the cervix. Free fluid may indicate ovulation or secretions from intestines,may be ruptured cyst, or some inflammatory lesions. consult a gynecologist if have any symptoms like pelvic pain.take care

Pouch of Douglas or Cul de Sac is the space between your Uterus and Rectum. Normally The free fluid is found in this pouch after you have ovulated or if there is rupture of any ovarian cyst. It is also found in some inflammatory conditions in your Pelvis like Pelvic Inflammatory Disease or Endometriosis. Get yourself examined by a Gynecologist for further evaluation to rule out if it is just a free fluid or if there is any clotted blood. If you don't have any abdominal cramps or fever, then there shouldn't be any issue.
Just get yourself examined once to rule out any pathology. And, one more thing, Free fluid in Cul de Sac as such does not cause infertility.
