What Is The Medication For Sore Throat?

Hello, I have an unbelievably sore throat. So much, that I can hardly swallow. My glands are incredibly swollen, there is a white pustule (or what looks like a pustule) and the throat is so red, it looks almost purple/blue. Am i overreacting to just a bad sore throat or should I do something about this?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Difficulty in swallowing with sore throat and swollen glands is indicative of an active infection with complications. I would advise you the following in such a situation:
- Consult your Doctor for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations
- Tests of blood for CBC, sugar and as required
- Throat swab for gram staining, culture and sensitivity
- Get started an an appropriate antibiotic, anti-inflammatory medicines
- Povidone iodine gargles
- Change over or additional treatment as per the reports of investigations and clinical response to the treatment
- Do not blow nose to avoid ear complications
- If required get admitted if you can not swallow to have intravenous fluids for maintaining hydration and electrolyte balance and intravenous antibiotics
- Continue treatment till cured to avoid recurrences

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
