What Is The Need For Biopsy While Having Heavy Periods During Menopause?

I just saw my gyno and had some bloodwork done to figure out why I haven t been feeling well. My dr said I am going through menopause but I have been having heavy periods but have the Merina. My doctor wants to do a biopsy ASAP. What could be a possible problem?

Hi,

Menorrhagia is the term used for heavy blood flow that is more than normal may be double the normal flow with blood clots sometimes. During menopause the cause for menorrhagia may be due to hormonal disturbances.

Menorrhagia may be due to hormonal disturbances such as progesterone and oestrogen, uterine fibroids, polpys, adenomyosis, endometriosis, etc. One of the major cause to rule out is the cervical tumour, endometrial tumour and ovarian uterine. Cervical and endometrial tumours can be confirmed with tissue biopsy which can be detected by the type of cells in the tissue. Management depends on the stage and grade of tumor in case it is.
