What Is The Numbness On The Right Side Of My Face?

My right eye continues to run and I seem to have feeling of numbness on the right side of my face. My right ear feels it is blocked also as I want to stick my finger in it all the time. I do not feel dizzy or any pain. This last week has been a stressful week I have had irregular sleeping habits.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

The symptoms as mentioned in your post can be attributed to compression of nerves supplying the right side of the face.

However, other causes for the symptoms need to be ruled out, such as:
1. Any fluctuation in blood pressure levels
2. Altered blood sugar levels
3. Inadequate hydration & nutrition status.
4. Deficiency of certain nutrients like Iron, Vitamin B 12, Calcium, Magnesium, etc.

Investigations like complete blood count, estimation of blood sugar & blood pressure level, Nerve conduction studies & MRI of brain will be helpful in clinching the diagnosis.

Management involves:
1. A course of corticosteroids.
2. Nervigenic agents (like Vit B6, B12, Folic acid) as well as multivitamin & mineral supplementation.
3. Maintain adequate hydration & nutrition status, take proper rest and avoid stress.

So, kindly consult a Neurologist for a proper clinical examination & start treatment as advised.

Wishing a Good Health.
Take care.
