What Is The Procedure For Drug Administration Of Mifepristone And Misoprostol?

My wife s first day of last menstrual period was 28th MAY 2015 and she missed her period this month (JUNE). Urine test shows positive. She bought a-Kare kit from a chemist which consist one tab 200 mg of Mifepristone and four tab each 200 mcg of Misoprostol. Chemist person advised to take Mifepristone at 7pm with milk and after 26 hours nearly about 10pm all 4 tab of Misoprostol at same time through vaginally. So, please suggest can we follow what chemist suggested or not?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, welcome to HCM. Yes he is right. First, take a dose of mifepristone tablet by mouth. Mifepristone causes the placenta to separate from the endometrium. It also softens the cervix and increases uterine contractions to allow the uterine contents to pass.
•     Second, you take 2 tablets of misoprostol by mouth (dissolved between the gums and cheek) or insert them vaginally, usually after 24 -26 hours of mifepristone. Remaining 2 misoprostal tablets can be taken after 4 hours by mouth or vaginal, which ever way you prefer. Misoprostol causes uterine contractions so that your body passes the uterine contents. Better you take misoprostol at home. You will get pain and then the pregnancy ends (like a miscarriage) at home.
It is better you take under doctors advice. First visit befor the starting of the treatement. The second visit is a follow-up appointment, usually scheduled about 2 weeks after the first visit, to make sure the pregnancy has ended and no complications are present. If a medical abortion is not successful, a surgical abortion is then done to complete the process because misoprostol can cause fetal abnormalities. Take care.
