Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my father is 90 yo with icd and md is wanting to replace leads because it is time for new generator. He has had 3 cabg's in last 35 years and most recent 13years and no longer canidate for more surgery. His ef is <45% and he has progressively become more confused/weakness/sob/peripheral edema/renal insufficiency over past year. Should he consider lead replacement to improve ef?
HI,WELCOME TO HCM, ICD's have limited shelf life.after a certain time heart failure symptoms tend to become evident. They can present as confusion, kidney insufficiency and peripheral edema.Since he is no more a candidate for surgery, considering his age and ejection fraction.it seems pretty reasonable to change the leads for the new generator.Your doctor's advice is pretty right here.Consult him for further queries Thank you
