What Is The Prognosis For Sternum Pain In An Adolescent?

our 13 yr old son is having pain in his sternum pain. He said he woke up with it but is only mentioning it now after dinner. I gave him 400 mg ibuprofen but unsure of next step. He is not debilitated by it. He says its hard to take a deep breath but was blowing on his musical instrument, a recorder. He s playing a game now, so I m not sure the next step.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Usually, the sternum pain is muscular or related to reflux of stomach acid. Ibuprofen given may provoke further acid reflux, I strongly recommend to give additional antacid and proton pump inhibitor along with dietary measures to follow.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
