I was wondering what are some of the dangers for someone that is over 60 years old and has a tumor in her lungs. She has been a heavy smoker ever since she was 15 and she deceassed the amount of cigarette two years ago, but still smoke at least a pack a day?
Since she is a heavy smoker i would advise to do CT scan chest with upper abdomen to find the stage of lung cancer. If any space occupying lesion is found then biopsy is suggested with EGFR and ALK mutation test. If mutation is positive then oral chemotherapyerlotinib and crizotinib will work for her. If found to be in stage 4 then average survival time is around 9 months.
