What Is The Prognosis Of FLD With Jaundice?

Yes, thank you. I have 33 yr old female, severe alcoholic. in hospital 19 days now, bilirubin still 14.6 AST ALT elevated, still jaundice, using wheeled walker but walking into walls, can't think right, all shaky. US liver and pelvis showed FLD. How close to end-stage is this?

Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

This is serious disease and quitting alcohol is the most important thing that should be done. You are young and this is a tragedy that such young person can develop such serious liver damage- However, this i snot end stage if there are no signs of liver failure with cirrhosis. This is obviously acute alcoholic hepatitis and withdrawal syndrome.
At early stages it can be treated with these conservative measures but but in case of progression, only liver transplantation may help. Diet should be balanced and healthy and get regular exercise. Limit high-carb foods such as bread, grits, rice, potatoes, and corn. And cut down on drinks with lots of sugar like sports drinks and juice. ALcohol must be avoided completely forever. Bilirubin is high but not critical and I expect that it will stabilize.

Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
