Hello.
Dengue has created a havoc in the recent months.
Relative or not it is always advisable to know what happens to a patient with dengue.
When we confirm dengue
fever has affected a patient we monitor his platelet levels and observe for his signs and symptoms.
Any time platelet less than 10,000 we transfuse platelets. If he has no symptoms and is completely fine that's another issue.
In your case he has a platelet of less than 12000. Please repeat a
platelet count again in 24hours and see if it is increasing. If yes, repeat again after next 24 hours. gradual increase indicates the patient is improving. if not, platelets have to be transfused.
In any case if the patient presents with bleeding and platelets less than 25000 we transfuse immediately. So as to prevent any further loss of platelets. Since your relative is also an alcoholic, as indicated by severe rise in
liver function tests, it is advisable to transfuse one pint of platelets. But it is completely subjective to your doctor. If he feels the patient can sustain without transfusion then it is his call.
