What Is The Prognosis Of An End Stage Renal Disease?

Are you currently in the United States, or in another country? My husband is in end stage renal disease, on dialysis 3x per week since 2012. He is 66 years old and also has CHF. He has decided against having a kidney transplant. What kind of prognosis can we expect for him?

Hello

Thank you for trusting HCM

Dear sorry to hear about your husband, patients with CHF patients progressing to dialysis- dependent renal failure had a grave prognosis: studies shows median survival time was 95 days, mean survival 444 days. None of the known factors except age was associated with a worse outcome in CHF patients. LV/RV dysfunction, high plasma NT-pro-BNP, C-reactive protein, low albumin and body-mass index did not turn out to be prognostic indicators. The only factors indicating improved survival were recovery of renal function and low hemoglobin.

Take care.
