What Is The Purpose Of Steroid Injections Months Prior To Delivery?

good afternoon. my wife is expected to deliever on 22nd jan 2012 as per sonography report.she was given a betnesol injection by her gynecologist on 19th nov.what is the reason for giving steriod injection .what will be the side effects on our baby.

you have mentioned that your wife has expected date of delivery on 22nd jan and she was given betnesol injection that is betamethasone on 19th nov...prior to that, an USG was done...

actually steroid during pregnancy is given after 32-34 weeks for lung maturation of the baby in case of any problem is noted on USG...so, there will not be any side effect on the baby, but it will help its lung development and maturation and it is entirely for the benefit of the baby...

so dont worry...
wish your wife happy motherhood...
