What Is The Purpose Of Taking Norgest During Periods?

i am 33year old mother of two. after my second sons breast feed {ie., before 4 years}i am not getting my period in regular basis., and the flow is literelly very less.why i am asked to take norgest 5 mg tablets from my fifth day of period to 21 days for 6 months?
