What Is The Reason For Aching Wrists Just Before Periods?

I am a healthy - not overweight 41 yr old female who is going through hormonal changes....The last 2 months, I have been having throbbing/aching wrists or on just one arm and it can radiate up through the rest of my arms at times. It comes and goes through out the day and lasts up to 2-3 days and this happens about 8-10 days before my period...And I also seem to have alot of heartburn or that's what I think it is lately too...Of course I'm worries it's heart related...Please can you help? Thank you.

Hi, Welcome to Health care magic forum.
The pain at the wrist may be due to the arthritis, or may be secondary to the cervical spondylosis,The heart burn may also related to the same.
The relation to the periods may be related to the emotional state of the individual due to the changes in the harmones.
I advise you to consult an orthopedic surgeon, for diagnosis and treatment. You may need to have an X ray of the wrist for confirmation.
Wishing for a quick and complete recovery. Thank you.

Addiction Medicine Specialist Dr. Preeti Parakh's  Response
Hi,

During menopause, the hormonal changes that occur, cause the tissues in the wrist to grow and compress the nerves passing through the carpal tunnel on the wrist, especially the median nerve. It is called carpal tunnel syndrome and is more common in menopausal women. It can be treated in the early stages with rest, physiotherapy and anti-inflammatory medicines. Severe cases require surgery.

Please do not worry as these symptoms are not related to the heart. The heartburn is also common in menopausal age and can be treated with antacids and other medicines.

Hope this helps you. Best wishes.
