What Is The Reason For Gums To Suddenly Start Turning Brown?

I'm 33 years old and my gums suddenly started turning brown. They have always been on the pink side. I don't smoke or drink, but I do have some African Ancestry. Aesthetically, this is bothering me but I'm most concerned that this could be an indication of some sort of systemic disease.

Hi! Welcome to Healthcaremagic.
I read your query. This brown pigmentation of gums is usually due to melanin pigmentation. It is a normal finding with progression of age and in certain ethinicity. Since you have African ethinicity, it can be a factor.
If it bothers you anytime aesthetically, laser diode surgery is done for this. However, if you notice any change in gums like inflammation, bleeding, discomfort, i suggest you to see your dentist.
Hope the answer helps you. Thank you!
