What Is The Reason For Non Improvement Of Testosterone Levels After Long Hormone Therapy?
I am 26 years old ftm transgender. I have been on testosterone therapy for 1 year 7 months, however the physical changes are barely noticeable. Testosterone level is in normal male range (25-32). Bilirubin level is high - 37 µmol/L. But other indicators of liver is normal. Hemoglobine level is also a little bit high - 167 g/l . Is it harmful? And why testosterone doesn t bring me (even after such a long hormone therapy) a progress? Thank you.
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Could you be more specific as what physical changes are you expecting? Do you have voice change and hair growth after testosterone treatment? Were your ovaries removed completely? Testosterone treatment can cause changes in Heamoglonin values and cholesterol values. Chances in bilirubin is unusual but liver enzymes may vary. If liver enzymes are normal, not to worry. However, if hemoglobin and hematocrit continues to be high, then it's a cause of concern.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
