My husband has copd, lupus and now he has been suffering with edema for three months in the lower extremeties He also has been coughing and bloated most of the time. He has had 25 days of sleepless nights and will sleep in the morning for about 4 hours and coughing awakes him up. His doctor gave him Lasix for two weeks which never helped him much. what else can he do? I am very stressed out thinking on how to help him.
Thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your situation and problem. COPD is chronic progressive disease. In end stage , it causes right sided heart failure. Right side of the heart is receiving fluids from the body. So if it fails, fluids are not properly circulated and accumulated in dependent part of the body like lower limbs, abdomen, lungs etc. So Cough and shortness of breath can be due to fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema). So consult cardiologist and discuss all these. Get done 2d echo to rule out right sided heart failure. If failure present than he may need cardiotropic drugs with diuretics. So consult cardiologist and discuss all these.
