What Is The Remedy For Experiencing Sharp Pain In Uterine Area After A Surgical Abortion?

Hello, my girlfriend had a surgical abortion almost exactly one month ago. She has been experiencing sharp pains in her left side uterine area. It happens about 4 times per week and lasts anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes. One day it lasted all day long with short breaks. It usually isn't constant pain, but can be. She has had no fevers and has not been bleeding for a couple weeks. Also she said that she had not gotten her period yet. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

During pregnancy, the uterus increases in size and after termination of pregnancy or delivery, it tries to go back to its original size and this process causes pain. Normally, after an abortion, the period may take about 4 to 8 weeks to come back. So for the pains she is feeling now, I would suggest she take some pain killers like acetaminophen. Her period will surely come back before the 8th week after the abortion.
