What Is The Remedy For Status Epilepticus?

Hi, My son has developed Status Epilepticus, His first episode was Dec 23rd,2012 and lasted over 90 min. None of the anti-seizure medicine would even slow him down, but he was turning blue within 30-40 seconds, was very frothy with bubbly tenacious saliva. I thought he was going to die in my arms before the ambulance would get here. He has had 4-5 episodes since then, each time needing to be put into a medically induced coma with a ventilator and spending 3-6 days in ICU. He was first put on Keppra 1500mg daily, that made him mean, very mean, he was then switched to Dilantin 100mg 3x/day and Klonopin 1mg 2x/day. I should state that prior to adding the Klonopin Nick had a seizure with his Dilantin level at 16. Other than EEG s and MRI s there has been no other testing. Nick has no aura. Should I seek a second opinion to see if another Neurologist would do more testing. He I just turned 20 and his Neurologist has him s totally incapacitated until seizure-free for two years. I am afraid to leave him alone for any period of time, because of cyanosis that comes on so quickly. He is also ordered a rectal injection of 10mg Valium gel prior to ambulance arriving Am I being over-bearing? I truly believed he was going to die on his first two episodes?

For epilepsy indicated investigation of EEG and MRI you have done. But observation by neurologist is confirmative for diagnosis. Blood levell of dialantin is to be monitored till he is taking the drug. In this case does and don't are to be observed. You have to keep him under watch. This is part of life ,he will be alright.
