What Is The Remedy For Swelling And Purple Lesions On Toes?

About 2 weeks ago the toes on my 16 year old son turned red from the tip of all of the toes down to the first joint. Also several purple lesions appeared and the toes subsequently experienced swelling. Fearing some type of infection I took him to a dermatologist. After the examination the Dr. prescribed prednisolone for 5 days. This treatment reduced the swelling but the lesions are still there. The Dr didn t know the cause of the problem and I am wondering if you would have any insight.

Hi,

It may be a short of allergy most probably.. like contact allergic dermatitis. It may be complicated by secondary bacterial infection leading to swelling and erythema. Oral antibiotic may be needed to control the infection along with steroid. Try to find out the triggering factor like soap,grass,shoe material...etc. And avoid the contact with suspected allergens.
