What Is The Remedy For Swollen Eardrum?

I have had a clogged feeling in my left ear for a week now which I think started with a bad head cold I got 2 weeks ago. I went to an audiologist and she said there is no fluid or infection but that my eardrum is swollen. I have no pain but it is driving me crazy. Is there anything I can do to help take the swelling down

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Since the audiologist has already examined and told you that the ear drum is swollen and there is no fluid or infection, I would advise you the following in such a case:
- Get started on an anti-inflammatory that suits you like Ibuprofen in proper dose and duration
- Also take decongestant
- Do not instil anything in ear
- Do not blow nose

If there is improvement continue the treatment for at least 7 days. Take a second opinion of an ENT Surgeon if required.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
