Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

Acute sunburn can be very painful and discomforting. A sunburn resolves with skin peeling/desquamation. Itching is a feature during the resolution phase.

If I was the treating doctor I would suggest you to take a short course of an oral steroids. Oral steroids are antiinflammatory, act rapidly and immediately bring down the discomfort.

In addition to that you could use topical moderately potent topical steroid e.g fluticasone propionate cream, twice daily for a week.

An OTC antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10 mg once daily would provide you symptomatic relief from itching

Be careful next time and always use a broad spectrum sunscreen, throughout the day, next time you venture out in the sun

regards
