What Is The Remedy For The Swelling And Pain In The Knees?

I fell a week ago and bruised my knee. It's not swollen or painful. It's discoloured, mostly below the knee joint. The joint feels slightly numb and a bit sticky or a grating sensation when I flex the joint. Is all of this normal? Is there anything I should be doing? I have no problem walking
