What Is The Sharp Pain In Ankle After I Twisted It?

3 days ago twisted my ankle outwards. I have since rested with ice packs etc, swelling is still there, no bruising apart from inner ankle only a little, slightly red on outer ankle (when water goes on it in the bath it heats up), keep getting tingling and throbbing. I have managed to stand on it but find a sharp pain if i go in the wrong direction? Could this just be a nasty sprain? and keep doing what im doing (ice rest) or more?
