What Is The Significance Of A Abnormal Pap Smear Test Positive For HPV In Elderly Woman Indicate?
Thank you. I am 60 years old, had my uterus removed 24 years ago and recently had an abnormal pap test and was told I am HPV positive. I had a colpscopy done and am awaiting the results. I ve been doing research and cannot understand if I am actually at risk for cervical cancer.

What Is The Significance Of A Abnormal Pap Smear Test Positive For HPV In Elderly Woman Indicate?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. No sexually active woman is spared from having a HPV infection, the most common infectious transmited disease. Pap smear is a screening method and could be mistaken but it may signal a problem. The next step is performing a Colposcopy, cervix biopsy as needed and a HPV-DNA testing. It is very unlikely that you will develop vaginal cancer. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Ricardo Gomez
