What Is The Status Of Pregnancy If No Heart Beat Is Detected?

My wife had done an IVF operation return was on 1st August 2012. HCG today was 9707. Inner ultrasound was done on 7th of september were sac and baby was seen with no heart beat detected. Doctor said baby is around 4 weeks age. Could i know the status of the pregnancy

Ultrasound is an excellent way to assess early pregnancy, but it also has its limitations. The earliest that you can see a fetal heart beat is about 6 weeks gestation or just slightly before. If the fetus that is seen only measures on the order of 4 weeks, then it is way too early to see a heart beat. Typically an ultrasound would be re-scheduled in about two weeks to assess the interval growth and heart rate.
