What Is The Tapping Noise And Ear Ache After A Cold?

My 5 year old is complaining of hearing tapping sounds in his head when he closes his eyes. He s had a light cold and says his ears kinda hurt but as of a few days ago he did not have an ear infection as we took him to the Dr. Could the sounds be related to ear infection?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is due to blocked Eustachian tubes as a part of upper respiratory tract infection. As a first line management you can take antihistamines for symptomatic relief. If symptoms persist better to consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
