What Is The Treatment For Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease?

Hi - my mom is 96 years old, has been very healthy but of late starting to fail. She has COPD and recently placed on oxygen, at home. Today she is feeling very lethargic and muscles "twitching". Concerned she could be dehydrated. What do you think ?

Hello
Since your mother is 96 years old and an old patient of COPD , now having lethargy , muscles twitching .
Yes you may be right that she may have dehydration but only a PHYSICIAN can judge whether she is dehydrated or not.
But I thinks she is a very sever copd case and treatment should be as follow.
---Short acting bronchidilator as required.
---regular treatment with long acting bronchodilator.
--Rehabilitation
Inhaled corticosteroid if repeated exacerbations.
Add long term O2 if chronic reps failure.
Still I recommend you please consult a pulmonologist and get his opinion for your mother.
Good luck.
