What Is The Treatment For TRAPS?

I have been diagnosed with TRAPS i am unable to access enbrel due to cost here in Australia. I trialed burst doses with prednisone but am concerned with health risks, and began to put on weight. do you have any other suggestions as to what I can try? Fatigue is the symptom that drives me nuts. I take 12 00omg of fish oil daily which helps some with the aches and pains and fevers plus I take a good multivitamin

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Steroids are the mainstay of treatment. to reduce the side effects you can take as a single dose in the morning after food. if not controlled by steroids you can try the following drugs. Some medications that block interleukin-1, an important protein involved in inflammation, are more effective. These include anakinra (Kineret) and canakinumab (Ilaris). They are usually helpful even in those patients who do not respond well to etanercept. In rare cases medications that block interleukin-6, tocilizumab (Actemra) have also been helpful.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Note: For detailed guidance on genetic screening consult a genetics specialist
