Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Is The Treatment For A Fast Heart Rate And Edema?
I was on a 2-day prep pkg for a colonospy procedure and went into atrial fibrillation and hospitalized 5 days.I am still having much distress shortness of breath, racing heart and gained 11 pounds of fluid - I have elephant legs and feet, etc. I believe my electrolytes are totally imbalanced. How do I regain my health? I am 73 years old. Thank you. The cardiologist referred me to family care physician and my fcp referred me back to cardiologist. I am frustrated and do not want to continue on 2 kinds of blood pressure, a blood thinner, Lasix, etc.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Seems that you might have heart problems and you need to visit a cardiologist, whom will see an ECG of yours and will do a cardiac sonography. This is to be sure if you only have atrial fibrillation that causes all other symptoms or is something else. Medications for blood pressure, blood thinner and Lasix need to be taken and the cardiologist might add medication for controlling the heart rate too.
All the best!
