HI Doc, I'm a 22 year old female ..I've been suffering with mild acne ever since my teenage ....since the last two years I had this hormonal imbalance and was put on diane35 ...after I stopped taking Diane I lost a lot of my hair ...plus acne keeps going and coming ....I have started using markal calamine for my acne which helped ...Visited a dermatologist recently who asked me to stop using calamine saying it causes whiteheads blackheads and skin darkening ...I wanted to know if I should stop using calamine as the same was helping my skin ...also Ive been put on minoxidil 5% and folicia tincture for my hair loss...wanted to know how effective and safe is it
You seem to have hormonal acne along with Androgenetic alopecia. I would suggest that you restart therapy with hormonal pills which would also help in controlling the hair fall. You could continue with Minoxidil as it is non-specific hair growth promoter.
Calamine, as such has no role in controlling acne. It has some astringent action and may benefit oiliness and thus might improve mild acne but it is not an antiacne medication.
