Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

Acne is a recurrent condition and commonly occurs in those who have oily skin/excess oil secretion. Since excess oil production is the underlying factor for acne, therefore those who have oily and acne prone skin, can benefit from using a salicylic acid based cleanser for face wash, twice daily. Salicylic acid is a pore cleanser and removes excess oil and blockages/comedones as well. It is available in 2% concentration as gel/foam face wash.

Oily skin can also be significantly improved by an oral retinoid e,g Isotretinoin 5 mg once daily for a few months. Retinoids decrease the size and therefore reduce the secretion of sebum.

Besides this, topical treatment of acne mainly revolves around Topical Antibacterial like clindamycin gel, Topical benzoyl peroxide and Topical Retinoids e.g Adapalene gel.

Topical antibacterials and topical benzoyl peroxide can be used during the day whereas topical retinoids are used during the night.

For inflammatory acne(papules and pustules) one of the oral antibiotics either Azithromycin Or Doxycycline Or Minocycline, may be started.

Once acne is well controlled, it is advisable to continue using a topical retinoid for maintenance, because they are not only antiinflammatory but also are comedolytic, thereby keeping acne in remission.
